We will be meeting at 8:30 am at the Desert Empire Fairgrounds at 520 S. Richmond Rd., in the city of Ridgecrest, CA. Parking is free at the venue.

The actual rock show starts at 9 AM both Saturday and Sunday at this venue. We will sign up for the trip at the show at 9 AM promptly. Admission to the show is free but cost to access the Rainbow Ridge claim is $5, payable as we sign up starting at 9 AM, they will likely also have a waiver to sign. After signing, please queue your car in line to join the caravan. The site is a good distance away from any concessions, so remember to bring plenty of water and snacks.

We will park our cars at the base of a hill so 4-wheel drive is not required. The goal here is the eponymous jasp-agate know as Rainbow Ridge jasper or sometimes referred to as Rainbow Ledge jasper. I will bring a couple of spheres I had made of this material to show before the trip (see photos). This is a surface collecting trip up a hill, so buckets and backpacks are recommended. Hammers can be useful to reduce size of rocks to carry back.

Bring along: Good sturdy shoes, plenty of water, sunblock, good coverage hat, rock hammer, collecting bag or bucket, and plenty of energy!

The trip will formally end after 2 hours of collecting at Rainbow Ridge, but folks are encouraged to return to the rock show in Ridgecrest and look around and peruse.
