Because of the damaging earthquakes earlier this summer which centered in the Ridgecrest region , the Gem-o-rama has been cancelled for this year.

The Gem-o-rama is a two day, three field trip event to collect various evaporative minerals from Searles Lake. Each trip costs a nominal fee, and is a highly regimented park-and-caravan type of thing. It's tons of fun and the minerals are unique. Stay in cheap hotels in Ridgecrest or dry camp or RV in Trona.
