Rockyard Field Trip

Calling all VGMS Rockhounds!

Here is your opportunity to visit and silver pick at a handful of public and private rockyards, all in one day! With this field trip, the off-roading, digging and collecting has already been done. The only digging that you'll be doing is if you want to see what's at the bottom of the rock pile...easiest rockhounding you'll ever do.

As per usual, field trip details are subject to change. This field trip will be led by Tyrone LaFay in coordination with our friends at the Victor Valley Gem & Mineral Club.

Here are the trip details:

- Diamond Pacific Tool Corp. Rockyard in Barstow: 9am - 11am(ish)
2620 W. Main St., Barstow, CA 92311

Diamond Pacific will open their rockyard for us at 9am. You will want to bring: gloves, buckets, spray bottles, closed toed shoes, layers to shed as it warms up, hat, sunscreen, water, snacks and a good eye. Many of us have found some really nice material buried at the bottom of these barrels. This rockyard holds decades worth of collecting material. Material is $3/pound, but $2/pound if you buy over 100 pounds (will need to be confirmed and updated).

- William Johnson's place in Barstow: 11:00am(ish) - 1pm
This is a private rockyard; the address will be provided to those who want to go from Diamond Pacific. William is moving out of state and has lots of nice material, mostly locally collected. You will want to bring all the things listed above that are recommended for the Diamond Pacific rockyard. We will receive specific details when we arrive regarding price per pound. I am unsure if they accept payment other than cash, so please be prepared.

- [Tentative] Jeremy Berg's Rockyard in Apple Valley: 2pm - 4pm
This is a private rockyard; the address will be provided to those who want to go from William's place. For those interested on your drive back to Ventura, we will continue our rockyard tour with a visit to Jeremy Berg's private rockyard in Apple Valley. Jeremy has graciously offered to open his private space to us and purchase rock from his expansive collection. Again, you will want to bring all the things listed above that are recommended for the Diamond Pacific rockyard. When you arrive, please be mindful that this is someone's private home and listen to instructions on where you can look and purchase material and where you cannot.

Each of these locations are kindly opening their rockyards specifically to VGMS members, so please be respectful and kind to them, their property and to others attending the field trip. I will update this field trip description as needed.
